There are so many amazing and beautiful members of the mint family.  The 3 that we have growing at the Wild Food Farm are River Mint, a spearmint/fresh minty flavour and aroma.  Very soft green leaves, they grow in the Rainforest and seem really happy there.

Round Leaf Mint or commonly called Native Basil or Native Oregano (what’s in a common name…right??) this is a really aromatic mint with almost a marjorim flavour and aroma.  We use it in our pasta sauces, sometimes breads or baked good.

Cut-leaf mint, or Native Thyme, this is pretty true to the comon name flavour and aroma.  Again use as you would any thyme in soups, vegetables, baked goods etc.  Like all native botanicals, get to know them first before you get too heavyhanded.

Both the Round Leaf and Cut Leaf Mint grown outdoors, quite hardy and once established are great leaf producers.  The other bonus with these two are the beautiful mauve flowers that are quite prolific in Spring.  They are a great bush for the home gardener and the bonus is you have these fantastic flavours on tap!
