Rover Thomas c1926-1998 One of Australia's most distinguised and recognised artists. Born at Well 33 Gunawaggi on the Canning Stock Route in the Great Sandy Desert of Western Australia and 'grownup' by two fathers. Lanikan Thomas, and Sundown, his second father, was of the Wangkajunga people and Ngakuyipa (Nita) his mother was of the Kukaja people. From an East Kimberley perspective, Rover Thomas belonged to the Joolama subsection or skin group. Rover Thomas achieved significant recognition in his lifetime. His unique vision and style reflect the close affinity he had with the landscape and his country. He is represented in major private and public collections in Australia and internationally
