The Quandong is shrub/small tree up to 5 metres, it grows in arid and semi-arid areas of southern Australia with a rainfall bewteen 150mmì600mm. It is a partial root parasite that can attach to the roots of a wide range of species, this makes it ideal for inclusion in reforested areas. The Quandong fruit is about 25 mm in diameter, with a central stone. The fruit is harvested in late spring early summer. The Quandong fruit are delicious fresh or dried and can be readily reconsituted with water for inclusion in baking. Quandong pie is an Australian favourite. The kernal can also be used for baking or for making an oil that is delicious in cooking.
